Portrait of Jane Addams (1860-1935), sitting in an automobile in Chicago, Illinois. A policeman on horseback is visible in the background. Addams, the founder of Hull House in Chicago, had traveled to the Netherlands for an international women's peace conference and throughout Europe to discuss peace issues with world leaders and then gave a lecture at the Auditorium Building on her findings.
